2010 BKPNY NEWS

Just before the heatwave hit New York this year, BKPNY finished packing books donated by our supporters, and shipped 6,000 of them!

Thanks to bulk book donors like Westorchard Elementary School in Chappaqua, the Saint Peters Community Library in Queens through Roxan Sands, as well as friends who have been collecting and donating books for us, we have met our target collection this year!

The beneficiaries of the books include the Francisco Balagtas Elementary School in Manila, two community libraries in Davao del Norte: PICOP Staff Ladies Association's community library in Barangay Mangagoy of Bislig City, Del Montel Elementary School Library and Baranggay Slon Elementary School n the Garden City of Samal, one school in Surigao, a community library in the municipality of Matnog in Sorsogon, two small public elementary school libraries in Palawan: the Panitian Elementrary School and the Underground Elementary School, and lastly the San Antonio Elementary School in Los Banos, Laguna. That's eight libraries stocked with great children's book, thanks to your book and financial donations.

Through our partnership-building efforts, we continue to expand our reach and meet civic-minded individuals who share our goal of improving the lives of young children. This year, we have sealed new partnerships with two important organizations: Friends of Los Banos Children and Alpha Phi Omega Igacos Alumni Association. These oranizations are spearheading community development efforts in Los Banos, Laguna and Davao Del Norte community of Samal, respectively. Our CLE trainer Czarina Sabado who this year relocated to the Bicol region is also starting a library in her community in Sorsogon and two smaller public elementary schools in Palawan. We are also pleased to finally send books to Francisco Balagtas Elementary School in Manila, whose staff we met in the summer of 2009, and told us about the tragic loss of all their library books from a fire that ravaged the entire school.
